Motocross and enduro diaphragm valves (reed valves) are a key element of 2-stroke engines, which are responsible for precise control of the flow of the fuel-air mixture into the cylinder. A well-selected diaphragm valve affects the torque, flexibility and dynamics of the engine. At Bajamoto you will find diaphragm valves and diaphragm leaves for KTM, Honda, Yamaha, Husqvarna, GasGas motorcycles and many others - from manufacturers Boyesen, Moto Tassinari, ProX and Athena.
How does a diaphragm valve work?
In the 2T engine, the diaphragm valve serves as a "non-return valve" that regulates the flow of the fuel mixture between the carburetor and the crankcase. It opens only at the right moment, preventing backflow of the mixture and ensuring optimal air flow. Its design determines how the engine reacts to gas - whether "from below" or only at high revs.
- increases torque in the lower and mid-range,
- improves the reaction to gas,
- makes starting easier and improves the smooth operation of the engine,
- prevents the mixture from flowing back into the carburetor,
- improves the engine's operating smoothness and its durability.
Types of motocross and enduro diaphragm valves
- Complete diaphragm valves – ready for installation, often with carbon or composite blades
- Reed petals – replaceable elements made of carbon or fiberglass,
- Tuning valves – increasing air flow (Boyesen, Moto Tassinari VForce4),
- OEM Replacement valves – with factory parameters and fit,
- Racing valves – used in high-speed racing engines.
Top brand of motocross and enduro diaphragm valves
- Boyesen – iconic Power Reeds and Pro Series valves – improved torque and flow across the entire rev range,
- Moto Tassinari – VForce3 and VForce4 systems, ensuring maximum air flow and smooth engine response,
- ProX – OEM Replacement membrane blades made of composite fiber,
- Athena – valves and membrane leaves with increased temperature resistance,
- FM-Parts – Hard Enduro sets with increased durability.
How to choose a diaphragm valve for a motorcycle?
Each Bajamoto motocross and enduro diaphragm valvehas a description of compatibility with the motorcycle model and engine capacity. Examples:
- Boyesen Pro Series Reed Valve KTM EXC 250/300 2T 2017–2024
- Moto Tassinari VForce4 Reed Valve Honda CR 250R 2002–2007
- ProX Reed Petals Yamaha YZ 125/250 2005–2023
When selecting a valve, pay attention to the engine type (2T), motorcycle year and carburetor manufacturer (Keihin, Mikuni) - valves are designed with specific intake systems in mind.
How to care for a diaphragm valve?
Regularly check the diaphragm leaves - cracks or deformations cause loss of power and difficulty in starting. Each time the piston is replaced, it is worth checking the condition of the diaphragm valve. Avoid installing contaminated or ill-fitting gaskets - leaks in the intake may lead to seizure. Replace carbon blades every 30-50 mth, depending on your driving style.
