Cross motocross tires - maximum traction, grip and control on the track
( number of products: 178 )Cross motocross tires (English. motocross tires) is one of the most important elements affecting the performance of a motorcycle. A well-chosen tire determines takeoff, acceleration and cornering stability. W Byamoto find motocross tires brands Michelin, Mitas, Pirelli i Bridgestone - Designed for track, sand, mud and hard offroad surfaces.
Why cross tires matter so much?
Motocross is a sport in which the tire must "read" the ground and react faster than the rider. Each type of surface requires a different tread and rubber compound - from soft for sand to hard for dry, compacted trails. Therefore selecting a motocross tire has a direct impact on traction, control and safety.
- better acceleration and braking on any surface,
- increased stability in corners and on bumps,
- lower susceptibility to punctures and deformation,
- tires matched to the power and weight of the motorcycle (125 / 250 / 450),
- soft, mid and hard terrain versions available.
Types of motocross (MX) tires
- Soft Terrain - For sand, mud and loose ground (high blocks, wide spacing),
- Mid Terrain - The most versatile, they work well on most tracks,
- Hard Terrain - For hard, compacted trails and dry surfaces,
- Front / Rear Specific - Dedicated tires for the front (21") and rear (19").

Choosing the right cross tires can be very difficult. It's not easy at first to get your head around the different names: enduro tires, cross tires, motocross tires, and the further you go, the more difficult it gets. There are aspects such as choosing a specific manufacturer, tire model, compound and, finally, size. This seemingly trivial topic, after closer examination, becomes quite a challenge even for experienced off-road driving fans.
First of all, how to check if your tires need to be replaced?
Most people aren't sure what to look for when checking the old tires on their motorcycle. What seems fine to you may need replacing a long time ago.
First, look at the blocks. If they are rounded or shorter than a new tire, you need fresh rubber. The worst possible scenario is torn tire blocks creating gaps and holes in the tread.
Also pay attention to the structure of the rubber itself, if you notice:
- Slits or cracks on the sidewall of the tire;
- Cracks between the blocks;
- Discoloration or peeling.
You need to make a choice and buy a new set of cross tires.
Tires come in many different variants
To choose the right tires, you must first assess your driving style. There are different types of tires and you need to choose the right set for your needs.
Motocross tires
Motocross motorcycles are designed to be ridden on closed dirt tracks with jumps and other obstacles. Motocross tracks generally do not have large rocks, water crossings, tree roots or other natural obstacles.
For this reason, motocross tires have a specialized high and aggressive tread that is ideal for cross racing conditions. However, even among cross tires there are many different knob configurations: from denser ones for hard, rocky trails to rare, shovel-shaped ones for sandy and very muddy tracks.
What is the difference between a cross tire for soft and hard terrain?
Since cross tires are produced in many sizes, shapes, tread patterns and compounds, you need to know what you are looking for when purchasing. Different tires perform better in different conditions. To make things a little easier, the choice can be boiled down to tires for soft terrain and tires for hard terrain.
Cross motorcycle tires are available in three main categories:
- Soft mixture: for hard terrain a softer composition is needed
- Hard mixture: for soft terrain, a harder composition is needed
- Medium: offers the best of both worlds
Contrary to appearances, Soft, Medium, Hard does not only refer to the rubber composition from which the tire is made. In each of these variants, manufacturers use a different carcass. The carcass is the internal reinforcement of the tire made of nylon and steel wire. Its key task is to properly stiffen the entire cross-section of the tire, limit damage and improve grip on the terrain.
It is the construction of the carcass that often distinguishes the best tires from their cheaper alternatives. This explains the mystery of why two tires with identical tread grip so differently.
