Why is it so important to change gear oil regularly?
Motorcycle gearbox oil is responsible not only for lubricating the gear, but also for dissipating heat, protecting against corrosion and damping vibrations. Driving with used or incorrectly selected oil increases friction, which leads to accelerated wear of gears, bearings and clutch. We recommend replacement every 20–30 hours in off-road motorcycles or according to the manufacturer's interval in road machines.
How to choose the viscosity and base of the oil?
- 10W40 / 10W30 – the most popular in enduro, cross and quad bikes.
- Mineral base – cheaper, good for moderate loads.
- Semi-synthetic – compromise between price and protection.
- Synthetic – highest temperature stability and oil film.
Mineral or synthetic? – Bajamoto expert's voice
Our team of mechanics recommendssynthetic oil for high-performance motorcycles and all machines operating at high temperatures. If you ride recreationally and change the oil more often than expected by the manufacturer, semi-synthetic will be an economical choice. A detailed comparison can be found in our gearbox oil selection guide.

FAQ – frequently asked questions
How often should you change the gear oil in a cross motorcycle?
For intensive off-road riding, we recommend replacement every 5-10 hours or more often if the manufacturer shortens the interval.
Can I mix different oil viscosities?
We do not recommend it. Always empty the gearbox and pour new oil with the viscosity indicated in the motorcycle's manual.
How to check the oil level in the gearbox?
Most motorcycles have an inspection screw or inspection window. Place the motorcycle upright, unscrew the plugs and make sure the oil reaches the recommended point.
Remember: Always follow the motorcycle manufacturer's specifications. If you have any doubts, please contact our technical department - we will help you choose the perfect oil for your gearbox!
