The valve cover (keyboard) gasket is responsible for the tightness of the upper part of a four-stroke engine - in the place where you most often interfere when adjusting valve clearance or inspecting the timing. In off-roading, it works in mud, dust and high temperatures, therefore motocross andenduro valve cover gaskets must guarantee resistance to oil, temperature and deformation.
When to replace the valve cover gasket?
- after adjusting the valve clearances / inspecting the timing,
- if there are visible oil leaks around the cover or in the spark plug wells,
- after engine overheating or a long journey in dust and mud,
- when the rubber is cracked, "flattened" or has lost elasticity (memory shape),
- with every comprehensive top-engine service (top-service 4T).
