Rear wheel spacers are the small but critical parts that keep your rear wheel centered and your axle properly supported on MX/enduro/off-road bikes. They set the correct distance between the swingarm and the wheel bearings, so the wheel runs straight, the brake caliper sits where it should, and the chain line stays consistent. Worn or incorrect spacers can cause wheel play, uneven bearing wear, a dragging rear brake, or a rear end that feels vague when you’re driving out of ruts in a jersey and knee braces.
When choosing rear wheel spacers, start with exact fitment for your bike model and year—diameters and lengths must match the axle, bearing ID, and seal. Check the material and finish: quality aluminum or hardened steel with smooth sealing surfaces reduces seal wear and keeps mud and water out. Consider your riding conditions: sand, deep mud, and pressure washing demand tighter sealing surfaces and more frequent inspection. Finally, think maintenance—spacers should slide in/out without burrs and should not chew up the wheel seals during wheel swaps between motos.
Common mistakes are mixing left/right spacers, reusing spacers with grooved seal tracks, or over-tightening the axle with dry, gritty parts. Replace spacers if you see scoring, corrosion, wobble at the wheel, or if new bearings fail early. After every hard weekend, check that the spacers rotate smoothly against the seals and that the rear wheel spins freely with the axle torqued.
Tip: Before installing, wipe the spacer and seal lip clean and apply a thin film of waterproof grease to the sealing surface to extend seal and bearing life.
