They take the hits from roost, crashes and boot rub, keep mud and water from packing into the airbox area, and help your bike stay tight and quiet instead of rattling from broken tabs. Fresh rear sides also restore proper alignment with your seat and rear fender so your kit looks clean and your gear doesn’t snag when you move on the bike. When choosing rear sides, match exact make/model/year and check whether your bike uses OEM-style mounting points or a different setup (especially if you run an aftermarket subframe or oversized tank). Look at material and finish: quality injection-molded plastic holds its shape, resists heat and won’t turn chalky fast; good color consistency matters if you run matching fender and shrouds. Think about riding conditions—sand and grit eat plastics and graphics quicker, wet clay adds weight and stresses mounts—so pick durable panels and consider running frame and side protectors to reduce wear. For maintenance, wash with mild soap, avoid harsh solvents, and keep fasteners and grommets in good shape to prevent cracking. Common mistakes are forcing misaligned panels onto bent subframes and reusing worn grommets or stripped bolts, which leads to broken tabs and rattles.
