Frame guards are protective covers that shield your MX/enduro/off-road bike’s frame rails and side spars from boot rub, roost, rocks, and trail debris. They prevent paint wear and deep gouges that can start corrosion, keep the chassis looking clean for longer, and improve grip where your cross boots clamp the bike when you’re standing and squeezing through ruts. For hard enduro and rocky singletrack they’re a cheap way to avoid expensive frame damage and to keep your bike easier to service and resell.
When choosing frame guards, start with exact fit and compatibility for your make, model, and year—mounting points and frame profiles differ, and a poor fit will trap dirt or shift. Look at material and construction: grippy rubber or TPU for maximum boot hold and impact absorption, or rigid plastics for abrasion resistance and easy cleaning. Consider your riding conditions: mud and sand need guards that seal well and don’t pack up; dry, rocky terrain benefits from thicker, tougher side coverage. Check how they mount (clips, bolts, adhesive) and whether they allow quick removal for washing and inspection.
