Chain Tools are made for MX/enduro/off-road riders who service their drive chain in the garage, at the paddock, or trailside. The right tool set lets you break and rebuild a chain cleanly, press side plates to the correct width, and rivet master links with confidence—so you avoid stiff links, thrown chains, and premature sprocket wear. Whether you’re in muddy enduro conditions or doing regular maintenance after a dusty moto day in goggles, jersey, and body armor, proper tools keep your drivetrain smooth and reliable.
When choosing chain tools, start with fit and compatibility: match the tool to your chain pitch (most commonly 520, sometimes 525) and the master link type you run (clip or rivet). Check the tool’s pin size range and included anvils to ensure it can both push pins and rivet hollow/solid pins without mushrooming. Material and build matter—hardened steel pins, a rigid frame, and precise alignment reduce the risk of bending pins or cracking plates. Also consider your riding and maintenance routine: if you wash bikes often or ride deep mud, pick tools that are easy to clean and use with accurate measurements for consistent side-plate press depth.
Common mistakes include pressing the side plate too tight (creating a binding link) or riveting without proper support, which can damage the pin head and lead to failure under load. Replace or service the tool’s pins when they show wear or deformation, and always check chain slack and sprocket tooth condition after installation—new links won’t fix a hooked rear sprocket.
Tip: After pressing the side plate, flex the link sideways by hand and verify it moves freely before you rivet.
