When choosing a kit, start with exact fit and compatibility: match make/model/year and carb model (Keihin, Mikuni, etc.), and verify the jet block and accelerator pump style. Check what’s included—gaskets, O-rings, float valve/needle seat, pump diaphragm, screws—because not every kit covers every wear part. Material matters: Viton/FKM seals handle ethanol and heat better than basic rubber, and quality diaphragms stay responsive in cold and mud. Consider your riding conditions and maintenance routine: frequent water crossings and pressure washing mean you’ll want better seals and to service more often. Common mistakes are reusing a grooved float needle, mixing up jets, or overtightening soft bowl screws and warping the gasket surface. Replace the kit if you see cracked O-rings, fuel staining around the bowl, a sticking float, or an accelerator pump that won’t squirt cleanly. Before reassembly, inspect the float height and the carb body for corrosion—no kit will fix a pitted sealing surface. Tip: Lay parts out in order, then test the float valve by gently blowing through the fuel inlet while lifting the float—if it doesn’t seal, fix it before the carb goes back on.
